Why Ilkeston Rugby Union Football Club?
We are a large non-profit Rugby Club (community amateur sports club or CASC), playing teams throughout the East Midlands. We currently field 2 senior teams, a colts team, as well as 4 Junior and 7 mini age groups. The club is a centre for community sport – As well as rugby The Stute, our home ground, is also home to football teams, a rugby league club, a cricket team, and a bowls club. We also act as a social hub. Much more than just a Rugby Club, The Stute has a full drinks license and is open to the general public, not just members. The historic and iconic Ilkeston landmark that is our clubhouse, has rooms for hire for social and business functions, and runs several public social events throughout the year such as a music festival, food and drinks events and our yearly family fireworks evening.
Teams we play or are likely to play include Long Eaton, Derby, Lincoln, Hinkley, Newark, Mellish, Coalville, Ashby, Mansfield, Nottingham Casuals, Nottingham Moderns, Keyworth, West Bridgford, Melbourne, Paviors, Southwell, Loughborough, Burton, Market Rasen and many more.
On the playing side of things Ilkeston RUFC, as well as fielding 2 adult teams, a colts team and 11 mini/junior age groups, are also looking to launch a girls U10 section to help our future of expanding into a female rugby section, we also have plans to field a social 3rd team. The club continues to promote itself off the field too, as the Executive Committee continue to strive for continued sustainable success through the organisation of events such as our Annual Bonfire Night, Family Fun Days, Music Days, Charity Matches and much more. The Stute or to give it it’s proper name, the Stanton Ironworks Sporting Institute is a well-known and historic building in Ilkeston, we have started a process of renewing and refurbishing the inside and outside of this historic building, modernising areas like the kitchen, replacing items such as the windows, whilst retaining the character of this 1930s Art Deco building. As part of our build up to our centenary in 2026, we also have plans to add a panoramic balcony to our upstairs bar, from which sponsors and members can take hospitality and watch on match days. This will be complimented by a terrace area underneath that also benefits our existing bar area with an elevated viewing area.
Ilkeston RUFC see a mutual benefit in working with companies who have strong ties with the local community in Ilkeston and the surrounding area. We are also confident that through association with Ilkeston RUFC we can raise the profile of your company to not only all our members and supporters, but also to the 40+ opposition clubs who visit throughout the season from the East Midlands area.
